20 Jan 2009 10:56 AM Alert

The tent camping is in the grassy area inside the track oval.  The RV spots, I believe, is just asphalt parking area on the south side of the complex with electrical access available.  These are not intended as RV spots but are used regularly for that purpose during many of the events.  If you are just looking for a place to park your RV at the venue, sleep, and plug in to keep the AC going, these spots will work great.

They are limited though, so you don't want to wait too long to reserve.

Much of the dirt parking area you see on Google Earth is property owned by the Army Reserve.

I will double check on the RV spots this weekend and if it is any different, I will let you know.

CORRECTION: 20 Jan: An MSN Search and MSN Maps showed me an address for WFC as "E 1200 N", and showed me an incorrect picture. 25 Jan: GoogleEarth showed the correct image. Correct address is "N 1200 W". Looks like a very nice place. Registration and RV reservations are Paid! Off topic: On my last mission down in your area (West Jordan), I-15 had a lot of construction going on. Is that all done now? Thanks.

I hate to say it but Utah's favorite past time is road construction. There will be construction on I-15 At 600 N to 2600 N Woods Cross this summer.

Thanks!! That's important info for me, and hopefully helpful to others as well. If I'm reading the map right...that's approximately from I-15, Exit 349 to Exit 346? I can exit to 2700 N, east to 1500 W, and south to WCF?

JPatrick,

Woods Cross is approximately 25 miles south of the fairgrounds.  Those coming from the north will not even see the construction.  Those coming from the south will pass through but unless your traveling during commuting hours, this shouldn't slow you down too much.  There are alternate routes such as Legacy highway or Orchard Drive through Bountiful, but I doubt these would be necessary or preferred.

What are the parking accomodations for cars & bikes?
Can the OL get the car to the camp site to offload?

Is there good ground to pitch a tent and use a sleeping bag? Near facilities for washing, etc? Reasonable smooth ground? These old bones need a little consideration... If all that is good, I'd like to save the money by camping instead of doing the hotel thing.... plus it seems like it would be closer to the action.....and the friends......

Lance,

The camping area is the infield of a horse race track and it has been used for tent camping for many other events.

As for the ground, I believe you should have no problem finding a comfortable spot but to be perfectly honest, I have never camped there and have only looked at it from outside the track.

I don't know how hard the ground is, there is grass and it looks to be smooth.

Showers and restrooms are 50 yards away from the camp area but we intend on adding some porta-johns at the camp area and if we have enough attendees camping, we may also bring in a portable shower trailer.

I realize this is all still coming together and a work in progress, and that keeping the site current is a lot of hard work, so 1st let me say "Thanks" for your efforts.

In "Schedule": You have events on July 30, as early as 0800 hrs.
In "Accommodations": It indicates use of the camping/RV facilities won't be available until after 1100 hrs.

Many attendees may need to unload or set-up prior to the ride times, etc. Any updates as we get closer to GOTG'09 would be helpful.

The facilities, such as porta-johns, may not be in place yet but you will be able to set-up your tents earlier that morning.  I am also checking to see if they will let let people set up tents as early as Wednesday night which would be a free night for those that reserve spots and arrive early.

See...this is what happens when I try to phrase my question generically so that it might be useful to others, besides myself. Could you expand your reply to include any info that would be helpful to the RVers, including the possibilities of Wednesday night set-up? Thanks, Patrick

If the Wed nite parking for rv's is not avail @ fair grounds, how far and easy to find is a Wally-world? AND, does the city allow RV's in their lot overnite (some cities have stopped the WM "freebie")?

Ladders, It sounds like you and I are kind of in the same situation regarding RV parking. I did a little research on GoogleEarth and here's what I found. There is a WalMart at 534 N Harrisville Rd., Harrisville, UT. It is approximately 2.5 miles from the fairgrounds. I don't know the local codes/rules, but by zooming in on the photo on Google I can clearly see a couple of RV's in the south-east corner of the parking lot. If I get the time, I'll call them and inquire about the parking, and post it here. Travel safe, everyone. Patrick Sr R/C, Boise, ID
