3 days and counting, about 40 some hours before we blast off from OKC. Looks like some weather may get in our way. It may slow us down but it will not deter us. Ya'll ride safe out there now ya hear?

Well, I am back home and had a great time. Gary, our tour guide through the desert, was great. Susan can ride great too. She is awesome in the crosswinds. We rode through every kind of weather except an earthquake, unless you count my ride as an earthquake. I will let them tell you about what happened along the way when they get back. I would do the ride again in a heartbeat with these folks.

Gary and the folks that put on The Gathering of the Guard should be very proud. Excellent job. It was great. I know a lot of work went into it but all of you pulled it off. BTW Gary, when did you sleep? I saw you always.
There is now a new standard for the Gathering of the Guard.

Well, the GOTG was great and well worth the trip. I will let Gary and Susan expound on that though. They went on to Sturgis and I rode back by myself to Arkansas. I left Sunday morning and about 30 miles from Ogden I came to a pass, Twin Sisters, and waited a bit for the wind to let up, or so I thought. It didn't so I pressed on. Not fun for the next few miles. Got through Ok though. Then the real fun began. 859 miles on I-80. No turns, just one heck of a straight road. Whoever the contractor was for the stretch of road near Big Springs, WY is, needs to be fired. New pavement and bumpy as heck. At least on a bike. I pulled off at Big Springs, WY and when I downshifted at the exit there was nothing to downshift with. Darn, no shift lever. It was somewhere back on the bumpy road, or in someone's windshield. I don't want to know where it is now though. I figured that I could use some vicegrips to get me home. I rolled into a gravel lot and looked up. A tractor Sales and repair shop. They let me us the welder and some scrap metal and 30 minutes later I was back on the road sporting a new custom shifter. Works great too. I may wrap it in leather and keep it on there. It sure won't come off.
Well, on my way again and hit Nebraska. Where in the heck are the corn fields? Still nothing. BORING? A few hundred miles and finally corn. It seems that they grow the corn in eastern Nebraska. It was a change and I needed that. It actually was pretty. Then I turned south and headed toward MO. I knew when I hit MO. because of the smell. Seems that they use different stuff in their fields. I stopped for the night near St. Joe, MO and got some rest.
Off again the next morning and good riding, except for a little rain, but it was better that blazing sun. My face was bleeding a little from the sun and windburn. For real too. I was using sunblock 30 but to no avail. Next time I will use axle grease.
When I got to Springfield, MO, I swear that ALL the drivers were out to run me over. What the heck? Well, on to Branson and then to the house.
All and all it was a great trip and I would do it again tomorrow.

... Here we are!... together again!
Cherokeeghostrider, Silvershadow & Pete!
The infamous trio in route to Utah. Pete, I am so glad you rode with us! My God!.. what would I have done in New Mexico when that crosswind hit that eventually pushed me into the median after my bike shutdown....I believe .. you were supposed to be there! Not to mention, catching the parts falling off my bike. Well, they didn't really fall off.. but felt like it was going to. My engine gard is still Zip Tied and holding! Oh, and the nice folks at the honda shop reattached my windshield bag (that almost blew away) for me free of charge!
What a ride it was!!! One adventure leading to another and another and another.....
Pete.... you did a good job on your shifter! Put a little chrome paint on it and everyone will want one!
Hey, before I really get started here ...does anyone know Roadbeagle"???
Ok.... the inside thing here is...Roadbeagle had offered to give me a pole to fly my state flag. Everywhere I went I was asking people if they knew him...LOL!! Come to find out... when we were packing up the tents... I asked our nieghbors before they left, and we had never been able talk to them till then. They said, Yes! he was camped right over there, and he was worried about getting that pole to you, pointing to a few camp spaces down from us!! How crazy was that? At one time, I almost walked around the campgrounds to see if I could find you Roadbeagle.. I will listen to my womanly instincts next time!
So ...Roadbeagle... when you read this.. know that I tried really hard to find you, ( just ask anyone!)LOL!! and Thank You for caring!..
As it was ....Cherokeeghostrider & I went to Lowe's to get the stuff so he could put it together. Gary, you did a fine job making our flag mounts. Thankyou so much for taking care of me. You had the route planned to a T and led us to all the beautiful places along the way. I couldn't have had better ride partners than you and Pete. I know in my heart I have made a forever bond with both of you.
I had to return to work on Monday..... so I haven't had any recovery time to speak of. The ride back... to say the least.... was not a pleasant one!
My new ride partners, Byron & Lisa & I endured constant brutal winds for 2 1/2 days. You can bet I was in touch with God the whole time!
There were times when I thought I just couldn't handle it anymore!
Saturday morning at 8:30 we & the wind left from Moline, Ill. I rode with Byron & Lisa till I got about 100 miles from Indianapolis. The closer I got to Tennessee, the less the wind was, so I kept riding. It got dark and felt good with no wind to speak of, I decided to take her on home! I had to stop around 25 miles from home to eat & drink coffee, because I was feeling too tired to ride. I rolled into the garage around 3:00am Sunday morning!! I had no idea how many miles I had gone till I looked it up. I rode 650 miles that last day. I felt it too!
Thank you UTAH for the AWESOME JOB you all did putting this together for us!! After being on this site all year, planning and looking soo forward to it all this time.. I had no doubt as to how great it would be! I will always remember!
I would do it again! And next time I will wear sunblock on my mouth. Thus the new roadname... aka "HOTLIPS"... lol!..Thanks alot,Pete!...
All in all there are no suitable words to describe just how great it was to meet and make all the new friends I did! Many thanks to Our National BOD and our friends that invited us to try Almondrado... Good stuff! Darn it! can't get it in Tennessee!..
There's still more stories to come.. the surface hasn't even been scratched!...
